Happy Thanksgiving

Here is a selfie from our pet turkey for your enjoyment.

This turkey is so personable.  He looks in the house windows to see what we are doing.  He comes over to chat when we are out doing chores.  He showers the hens with unrequited love.  He’s just so..big...compared to them.  He spreads his feathers and struts with confidence only to slowly tuck them back under again when none of the hens returns his admiration.  We may need a lady turkey soon…

On the Farm

The green grass is gone and the cattle are finally eating hay.  We will keep rotating them on pasture as long as we can get the posts into the ground.   We make every effort to continue to “graze” cattle through the winter to spread out the organic matter (hay) and fertilizer (manure). Our 13 year old daughter has taken on the hen chores.  It is a delight to see her really leaning into responsibility (it has taken a few years!).   The hens get water 3 times per day to avoid freezing, eggs are collected twice a day to avoid freezing, the hens are fed twice a day and their fencing is opened in mid afternoon to allow grazing and then closed at dusk.  So, for those of you lucky enough to get some yummy PTF eggs, just know that Arianna has touched each and every one.

We invite you to try it.  The first time using Barn2Door can be a little confusing.  You will need to sign up before placing items in your cart.  When selecting items you will also need to choose the delivery location.  To offset the learning curve Barn2Door offers a $10 coupon off any order over $10.  Seriously, you could order 2 pounds of ground beef and only pay about $4.    The coupon code is WELCOME10.

Thank You!

Thank you to all of you who make our farm a part of your meal making and advocacy for a better planet.  We love you for it!
